Tuesday, 31. December 2024 | EHC Red Bull München: Review to 2024
In the books: That was our year 2024! Move to the SAP Garden and lots of milestones// REVIEW2024 was a very special year for EHC Red Bull München. With the highlights from the last twelve months, we now send you over to 2025. The Red Bulls wish you all a Happy New Year!
One thing is certain: this year was never boring. On the contrary, the 366 days were exciting and varied, but also challenging and to a certain extent extraordinary and historic. A lot happened, especially off the ice.
The focus was of course on the move from the Olympic Ice Stadium to the SAP Garden. And today, a good three months after the opening of our new home, we can all look back on it with pride.
THANKS FOR THIS YEAR - That was 2024 with the Red Bulls
// REVIEW
Goodbye, Eisstadion!
But let's start our little journey through 2024 in the spring. After a convincing playoff quarter-final series against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg - EHC Red Bull München won 4:0 - we were to make our final appearance at the Olympic Ice Stadium on April 7.
In the fourth semi-final game against the Pinguins Bremerhaven, the Red Bulls lost 2:3, with Chris DeSousa immortalizing himself as the last Munich scorer in the Olympic Ice Stadium. Two days later, the North Germans took the decisive fourth win in front of their home crowd, which meant the season was over for us. And that was also the end of our time at the time-honored ice stadium, which we bid a fitting farewell to a few days later at a very emotional end-of-season party.
The SAP Garden opens its doors
The following months were then dominated by the SAP Garden and the grand opening on September 27. On that Friday evening, 1,719 days after construction began, the new Munich landmark was finally officially opened with a game against the Buffalo Sabres NHL team led by JJ Peterka.
How the opening game of the SAP Garden went
// GRAND OPENING GAME
Perfect competitive match premiere
On October 2, things got really serious for the first time in the SAP Garden. The Grizzlys Wolfsburg were our guests for the PENNY DEL premiere. And our team got off to a perfect start.
1:0 | Ben Smith with the historic goal premiere!
// IN-GAME-VIDEO
Ben Smith scored Munich's first goal after just over two minutes in front of 10,796 spectators in our sold-out multifunctional sports arena, and in the end the Red Bulls prevailed 7:4. The first win in the first competitive game was perfect.
On the way to becoming a record player: milestone for Maxi Kastner
Towards the end of the year, things got particularly emotional once again at the SAP Garden. Firstly, Maxi Kastner played his 500th DEL game on November 26 against the Schwenninger Wild Wings. The special thing about this anniversary: the Garmisch native played all of his games in the jersey of EHC Red Bull München.
500 del games for EHC Red Bull München: Congrats, Maxi Kastner!
// AKTUELLES
Our veteran now has 511 appearances on his CV, which puts "Kasti" just three games away from Munich's record player Daryl Boyle (514). So the next highlight is already on the horizon.
"Ahoy, captain!" - Tribute to Michael Wolf
It was also nostalgic and heart-warming on December 22. The reason: before the home game against the Iserlohn Roosters, Michael Wolf, a former Red Bulls player who usually shies away from the limelight, took center stage.
#13: How the banner ceremony for Michi Wolf went
// HIGHLIGHTS
The former Munich captain, who led our club to the title hat-trick between 2016 and 2018, was honored as part of a banner ceremony. As a highlight, his jersey with the legendary number 13 was finally pulled under the roof of the hall. It now hangs there next to Joey Vollmer's for all time.
Yasin Ehliz sets our top scorer record in the DEL
The last home game in 2024 against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg (3:2) was also a very special one. With his assist for the interim 2:2 against Wolfsburg, Yasin Ehliz set Yannic Seidenberg's club-internal DEL record (273 points).
His 273 DEL points are made up of 149 assists and 124 goals. In terms of goals, the next goal should be predefined: Our DEL top scorer is only four goals short of equaling Trevor Parkes as the best DEL goal scorer in the history of the Red Bulls.

Club record broken in no time at all
We also reached another milestone a few weeks ago. The first 17 DEL home games in the SAP Garden were attended by 167,409 fans. We broke our DEL attendance record (134,131) from the previous season at the beginning of December.
Incidentally, the four-time German champions have sold out the SAP Garden nine times since it opened. If you want to experience the Red Bulls live in the new year, you can secure your tickets here.
