Goodbye, Eisstadion!
But let's start our little journey through 2024 in the spring. After a convincing playoff quarter-final series against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg - EHC Red Bull München won 4:0 - we were to make our final appearance at the Olympic Ice Stadium on April 7.
In the fourth semi-final game against the Pinguins Bremerhaven, the Red Bulls lost 2:3, with Chris DeSousa immortalizing himself as the last Munich scorer in the Olympic Ice Stadium. Two days later, the North Germans took the decisive fourth win in front of their home crowd, which meant the season was over for us. And that was also the end of our time at the time-honored ice stadium, which we bid a fitting farewell to a few days later at a very emotional end-of-season party.
The SAP Garden opens its doors
The following months were then dominated by the SAP Garden and the grand opening on September 27. On that Friday evening, 1,719 days after construction began, the new Munich landmark was finally officially opened with a game against the Buffalo Sabres NHL team led by JJ Peterka.
