Tuesday, 31. December 2024 | Yasin Ehliz sets club's internal DEL top scorer record
„Birthday boy" achieves club record: Ehliz sets DEL top scorer record Goal machine, assists expert and team player// NEWSEHC Red Bull München has a new top scorer in the DEL. Yasin Ehliz equalled Yannic Seidenberg's club record (273 points) with his assist for the 2:2 draw against Wolfsburg. A special moment for our striker.
"I don't really worry about records. At the end of the day, it's all about winning the games. The feeling of sitting in the dressing room as a team after a win means more to every player than any statistics," explains Ehliz, who is nevertheless not completely unaffected by this spectacular figure. "To have reached this record point and milestone is something beautiful. It means a lot to me to play for Munich," he adds.

"There's no need to mention separately what a good player Yasin is. The numbers speak for themselves. He's a very humble character and very popular with the whole team," explained our coach Max Kaltenhauser at the press conference after the 3:2 win against the Grizzlies.
Ehliz, who also celebrated his 32nd birthday on Monday, hardly felt much time for anticipation or even pressure in the run-up to the game. The fact that he was getting closer and closer to the magic mark was not even on the striker's radar. "I only found out how close I was to the record after the 8:0 against Düsseldorfer EG. As a player, you don't really notice it unless you're made aware of it."

Goal machine after initial struggles
It's been over six years since Ehliz scored his first DEL goal for Munich against the Augsburger Panthers on December 18, 2018. At the time, the new signing was still struggling to convert his chances and had to work towards his debut goal for a month and a half after joining the Red Bulls. When the time came, the international was relieved.
"That was a relief for me," admitted Ehliz after the derby. "I'd created a lot of chances in the games before, but when you miss one chance after another, it gets a bit annoying at some point."
Ehliz already in his seventh season in Munich
Spectacular years followed in Munich, with the 2023 championship as the highlight so far. An outstanding season for EHC Red Bull München, in which Ehliz became a key figure. The Bad Tölz native scored a total of 60 points in the 2022/23 main round season, and our number 42 was consequently named PENNY DEL Striker and Player of the Year shortly afterwards.
Ehliz now has 273 scoring points for EHC Red Bull München. He has shaped the last few years of the four-time German champions. "The first thing I thought when I set the record: 'Time flies brutally fast. It's already my seventh season in Munich. Before that, I spent eight years in Nürnberg, so I'm not far away from that here."

Ehliz: "Haven't regretted a single day"
The then 25-year-old spent a few weeks in North America between his time in Nürnberg and Munich. The Calgary Flames signed Ehliz from the Ice Tigers in 2018. There, however, the forward did not play for the NHL team, but for the AHL team Stockton Heat. Shortly afterwards, the Olympic silver medalist decided to return to Germany and signed with champions Munich.
"Since I've been in Munich, I haven't regretted not trying something else for a single day. It's been confirmed time and time again that it was the right decision," says Ehliz, looking back on the past few years. Our new DEL top scorer certainly doesn't see the move to the four-time German champions as a step backwards. In Munich, the striker has even taken the next step for himself.
Ehliz is grateful: "I've learned a lot here. Just through the coaching team around Don Jackson and Matt McIlvane in my early days. Working with the staff has helped me a lot. I always had top players at my side with whom I was able to develop."

The next record in sight?
The 32-year-old has now also become the best scorer in our club's history in the German Ice Hockey League. His 273 DEL points are made up of 149 assists and 124 goals. In terms of goals, the next goal should be pre-defined: Ehliz is just four goals short of equaling Trevor Parkes as the best DEL goalscorer in Red Bulls history.
For Ehliz, however, even that is only a minor matter. "The goal is always to win games and play for the championship. Since I've been here, we've always been at the top, always had top teams, won the championship, reached the final of the Champions League. Always having the feeling that you can win is the most important thing," explains our number 42 and adds: "We want to keep it that way in the future."
