“You were the heart of our ice hockey club": This is how the banner ceremony for Michael Wolf went// RECAPOn Sunday afternoon, before the game against the Iserlohn Roosters (2:1 win), a former Munich player who usually shies away from the limelight took center stage: Michael Wolf. His jersey now hangs under the roof of the SAP Gardens.
Wolf took to the ice at SAP Gardens with his wife and children shortly before the game on Sunday. Of course, the family had the three championship trophies in their luggage, which the former goal scorer took us to. The Red Bulls and the Roosters stood guard, and numerous companions were also present.

A permanent place in the SAP Garden
At the opening of the banner ceremony, Christian Winkler (Managing Director Sports Red Bull Ice Hockey) began with a speech in praise of one of the best German ice hockey players of all time.
"He was an outstanding player, he was a world-class captain on the ice and in the dressing room and he was an outstanding person, which he still is today. From May 2014, he was our 'Ahoy captain', as Stefan Schneider affectionately called him," said Winkler, adding: "You treated everyone with a lot of respect on a daily basis and were always there for everyone. You were the heart of our ice hockey club. You not only made the team better, you also made us better as an entire organization. We are incredibly grateful for what you and your team did for Munich's ice hockey history. That was the foundation stone for our new home. Forever our number 13, Michi Wolf!"
Afterwards, Wolf's unique career in a Munich jersey was honored in a compilation on the video cube, with record-breaking coach Don Jackson and Dominik Kahun (SC Bern) among the well-wishers.

After that, the Füssen native stood alone in the spotlight. And as always in his career, Wolf found the right words here too. "A lot has changed in the course of my career. What has remained is my 13th number, and to see it now in our hall is incredible. To be able to experience this moment with you in this great hall for this great club fills me with happiness and pride," said Wolf by way of introduction.
He then thanked his family, fans and companions: "My thanks go to everyone who has supported me on my way here. First and foremost, I'd like to thank my wife Stefanie, and an equally big thank you goes to my children and my entire family. I would like to thank all my teammates and coaches. I would also like to thank the team behind the team, there should actually be a separate jersey up there for each coach. Special thanks also go to EHC Red Bull München and my friend 'Winki'. You have given me the opportunity to realize my goals and make my dream of the German championship come true. And of course I would like to thank you fans. I wouldn't be here without you. Without your passion and support, ice hockey wouldn't be what it is today. You make this sport so special. I hope to see you in the new year at the next banner ceremony for the 2025 championship. Thank you!"
Finally, the highlight was his jersey with the legendary number 13 being pulled under the roof of the hall. It now hangs there next to Joey Vollmer's for all time.
