Chasing home court: Red Bulls host Berlin
Saturday, 02. March 2024 | DEL preview: EHC Red Bull Munich welcomes Eisbären Berlin
Chasing home court: Red Bulls host BerlinSold-out top match at Oberwiesenfeld// DEL - PRE-REPORTAfter three away games in a row, the Red Bulls enter the home straight of the DEL main round. On Sunday, we welcome Eisbären Berlin (14:00 | live on MagentaSport, DF1 & on our blog) for the top game at the Olympia-Eisstadion.
Both teams have two games left before the playoff quarter-finals in mid-March, the "hottest time" of the year. The Red Bulls won 3:1 at the Iserlohn Roosters on Friday night to secure their place in the quarter-finals
The aim now is to secure home ice for the playoffs with two wins and a bit of shooting assistance in the last two games. "Now we want home ice with fourth or third place and keep pushing," explained Maxi Kastner after the win against the Roosters. At the same time, Berlin lost 4-1 away at the Straubing Tigers and thus lost the lead in the table to Bremerhaven.

Munich wants to set an example
While the Red Bulls were able to win all four games against the German capital last season, the team is still waiting for a win in this season's duel between the two heavyweights.
However, the last two games were hard-fought. The Polar Bears came out on top at home 2:1 after a penalty shootout, while Berlin took the points from Oberwiesenfeld (6:4) in mid-January thanks to two late goals.
Coach Toni Söderholm's team came back again and again in a highly exciting exchange of blows before Manuel Wiederer completed his hat-trick with a shorthander shortly before the end to put his team on the road to victory.

By the way: With a win on Sunday, we would have won at least once against every team in the PENNY DEL in the main round! A little message to the competition just before the start of the playoffs.
Concentrated offensive power
But the second-placed team is still in the race for the "main round championship" for a reason. Polar bear Zach Boychuk is playing his best season in Germany so far. With 23 goals, the Canadian is not only his team's top scorer, but also the second-best scorer in the league behind former Munich player Justin Schütz (Kölner Haie, 26 goals). Boychuk forms the top line-up with Leo Pföderl, who scored five goals in the last home game against Iserlohn, and Marcel Noebels.
Coach Serge Aubin can also rely on two old acquaintances in the Bavarian capital. Tobias Eder has already scored 21 times, Frederik Tiffels has 26 assists and 36 points. In fact, nine players have already scored in double figures - pure offense. The Eisbären have scored by far the most goals in the league (174 goals).
