Course of play
The Roosters set the first offensive accents, but Munich goalkeeper Daniel Allavena mastered all challenges with aplomb. From the 5th minute onwards, the Red Bulls also regularly appeared promisingly in front of the IEC box. A lively match developed with opportunities on both sides. Only goals were missing. Until Yasin Ehliz stepped up and ensured that the puck found its way from Ortega's leg into the Iserlohn net (18th). The US-American was spot on in his 250th DEL game. The teams went into the first period break with Munich leading 1:0.
In the middle period, the Red Bulls went on the hunt for the 2:0 with great vigor, but the Roosters were the first to celebrate. Colin Ugbekile scored from the blue line in overtime to make it 1:1 (27'). After that, the opponents neutralized each other before Lancaster provided the next highlight: The Munich defender coolly beat Iserlohn goalie Andreas Jenike and put Toni Söderholm's team back in front with his first DEL goal (33'). The score remained 2:1 for the champions until the second buzzer.
Less than a minute had been played in the final period when Lancaster showed that he was enjoying scoring: Undisturbed, he skated towards the opposing goal and scored over Jenike's catching hand to make it 3:1 for Munich (41st). The Red Bulls now clearly had the upper hand and were closer to their number four than Iserlohn were to the final goal. With 3:37 minutes remaining, the Roosters brought on a sixth outfield player for the first time. However, EHC Red Bull Munich defended its lead with aplomb and booked its quarter-final ticket with the win in the last away game of the main round.
