Red Bulls with strong reaction after "incredible speech"
Monday, 20. March 2023 | Playoffs DEL: EHC Red Bull München votes and stats after game 3
Red Bulls with strong reaction after "incredible speech"Voices & Stats for the third quarterfinal match// DEL - CURRENTThe Red Bulls wanted to shorten the best-of-seven quarterfinal series against Bremerhaven, Filip Varejcka and Co. delivered. The votes & stats on the 7:1 win in Game 3.
Don Jackson: "Our biggest goal was to minimize the opportunities for Bremerhaven and stop their attacks early. In front, we scored the goals. At times it was very tough, it got a little out of hand. I'm proud of how the guys bounced back. That's how we want to keep playing."
Filip Varejcka: "The coaches gave an incredible speech and changed the lines a bit. We knew there was a lot at stake and we put everything into it. The first period was the hardest I've ever played. The fans got to see a lot. We took a few unnecessary penalties, but overall it was a great performance by the team."
Thomas Popiesch (coach, Pinguins Bremerhaven): "It was clear to us that Munich would come with speed. We wanted to keep the first period tight, get discs out and not take penalties. Things didn't go as we had imagined. Munich played it very well, though. We know what we have to do, we just have to do it consistently."
Highlights: Red Bull München vs. Pinguins Bremerhaven (19.03.2023)
// DEL - HIGHLIGHTS
Facts
31 shots on goal, seven of which found their way into the net - the Red Bulls shone with efficiency in Game 3 (shooting rate: 22.6 percent). In the first two quarterfinal games, only 3.6 percent of shots on goal (3 of 84) were in.
Our power play units contributed two goals (overtime rate: 40 percent) - the same number as in the first six season duels against Bremerhaven combined.
Man of the Match: Filip Varejcka scored two goals in a game for the first time in the DEL. His four scoring points are also a new career best.
Varejcka leads the DEL playoff scorers' list with five points in three games - along with Jan Urbas (Bremerhaven) and Düsseldorf's Alexander Barta, Philip Gogulla and Mikko Kousa, who, however, have already been in action five times.
Trevor Parkes set Michael Wolf's club record with his 104th DEL goal in a Red Bulls jersey. The Canadian needed only 256 games for this - 51 less than Wolf.
The Red Bulls only managed a win with a six-goal difference one other time in the DEL against Bremerhaven: In the 8-2 away win six years ago (March 15, 2017) - incidentally, also in the playoffs.
For the Pinguins Bremerhaven it was the first defeat in the fifth game of the current playoffs. For the first time, the Pinguins conceded more than two goals.
