Aggressive Munich gained more and more advantages in the course of the first period, Bremerhaven mainly used counterattacks. In minute 14, two penalties in quick succession for the Penguins, but the Red Bulls were unable to take advantage of the 5-on-3 overtime. And because both goalies did a good job until the siren, the score was 0-0 after 20 minutes.
The Red Bulls started the middle period full of pressure. Without success: Bremerhaven always had a stick in between, broke free and scored somewhat surprisingly through Jacob Virtanen for 1:0 (26.). Munich continued to move forward, but the Penguins' bulwark held firm until the 37th minute, when Varejcka scored the equalizer after a dream combination via Maximilian Daubner and Trevor Parkes. 15 seconds before the end of the period, the Red Bulls cheered for the second time: Ortega converted a rebound in overtime to make it 2-1.
In the final period, Bremerhaven struck back. After long video evidence Antti Tyrväinen's 2:2 from the 45th minute counted. The game became rougher and on the power play the Penguins turned the match through Phillip Bruggisser's slap shot from the blue line (49th). 2:3 - Munich under zugzwang, Bremerhaven shut down again. In the 57th minute Don Jackson took the goalkeeper off the ice. A dramatic final phase on the North Sea coast with the better end for the hosts, who brought their lead over time and are now 2-0 ahead in the quarterfinal series.
