Gameplay
Munich's eager players put their stamp on the game in the first period. Parkes (5th) and Austin Ortega (9th) had the first top chances in overtime, but the visitors' defense held firm. In the tenth minute, Penguins goalkeeper Maximilian Franzreb had no chance when Varejcka deflected a shot by Konrad Abeltshauser. Parkes scored his 104th DEL goal in a Munich jersey, equaling Michael Wolf's club record (13th), before Ehliz added the 3-0 goal 15 seconds before the period's end in overtime.
The Red Bulls continued to be hungry in the forecheck and straightforward in the offensive in the middle period. Street rewarded still superior Munich with the 4:0 (25.). Bremerhaven could then make the duel more balanced, but Franzreb still more often challenged than Mathias Niederberger. In the 39th minute, the goalie of the guests was beaten for the fifth time: DeSousa slammed the puck into the net on the power play.
For the final period, Penguins coach Thomas Popiesch changed goalkeepers: Niklas Svedberg replaced Franzreb, but even the Swede could not keep his box clean. The eye-catching Varejcka finished a beautiful move with the 6:0 (45.). The post stood in the way of his treble (50.). A tick more accurately aimed Schütz, who brought the puck via the goalposts into the net (51.). A little later, two Munich players were in the penalty box. Phillip Bruggisser took advantage of the opportunity to put Bremerhaven on the scoreboard (54th). Thus, in the end, there was a highly deserved 7:1 victory for the Red Bulls.
