Back on the wave of success: Eisenschmid on his run
Wednesday, 24. January 2024 | EHC Red Bull München: Markus Eisenschmid in top form
Back on the wave of success: Eisenschmid on his run"Found my self-confidence"// NEWSWith six goals in the last nine games, Markus Eisenschmid is currently one of EHC Red Bull Munich's most prolific scorers. The 29-year-old has been in top form for weeks. Also thanks to his teammates.
The advantages of being at home in Bavaria became clear once again on Monday. Some of the family were able to drop by for the birthday of our number 11. After all, the distances from Kaufbeuren to Munich's Westpark are short. "My parents, grandma and grandpa were there, and friends came in the evening. It was really relaxed," says Eisenschmid about his special day on Monday.
Surfer Eisenschmid still has respect for special spot
The attacker has settled back into life in Munich following his return to Bayern last summer. There's just one thing the surf fan isn't quite sure about yet: surfing at one of Munich's most famous hotspots!
"I have a lot of respect for the Eisbach wave," he laughs. "But my girlfriend has been there. I wanted to try my hand at the standing wave in the Jochen Schweizer Arena." There will certainly be enough time for that after the season.

Onetimer against the polar bears: A "typical" Eisenschmid
At the moment, the focus is fully on the ice, as the season has reached the hot phase. There are also parallels to Eisenschmid's passion at the club: the current season has been wavy for the Red Bulls so far. "We're now working on getting consistency in our performances. We played very well over 60 minutes against Bremerhaven," says the right winger.
The result: a 4:2 win for our boys and another Eisenschmid goal. The striker scored for the ninth time in this round. He has scored six goals since December 28 alone. That's no coincidence. "I'm feeling really good at the moment, I've found my confidence and my consistency," he reveals. "I'm not worrying so much anymore. And I want to do everything I can to keep it that way!"
Whether it was rebounds, solo runs or direct shots when outnumbered: Eisenschmid scored from all situations. His one-timer goal in the power play after a cross-ice pass in the game against Eisbären Berlin on January 14 was particularly typical of him. The Kaufbeuren native has an extremely hard and precise shot - positional play has also been a hobbyhorse of the attacker in recent years. "That's how I scored a lot of my goals," he recalls.
Praise for his teammates
But Eisenschmid is also a team player who attributes his strong performances to his teammates. Until last Sunday's game against Bremerhaven, he had formed a forward line with Filip Varejcka and "Klausi" Heigl in recent months. The trio harmonized magnificently, brought a lot of energy to the ice and created plenty of scoring chances.

Eisenschmid confirms: "The teamwork worked very well, we had a lot of fun. And it was nice to see that we're on a good run. Even if we would have liked "Klausi" to score his first goal in the PENNY DEL." But after five assists already this season, that's really only a matter of time.
One leader and two youngsters
Now 29 years old, Eisenschmid has led the way in this constellation, while Varejcka (23) and Heigl (21) are significantly younger. "We helped each other a lot, sometimes I also addressed certain things. And I was also able to pass on a little of my experience to the boys. But always on an equal footing, of course," is how he describes his role.
Most recently, he lined up alongside Ben Smith and Yasin Ehliz. "Ultimately, it's up to the coach," says Eisenschmid. And how Toni Söderholm decides in future will be shown by the upcoming duels against Cologne and Mannheim at the weekend (get your tickets now). However, the goal against Bremerhaven proves that Eisenschmid can also score goals in other constellations when he's in good form.
