Thursday, 07. March 2024 | DEL: EHC Red Bull München welcomes Augsburger Panther
Main round final! Last derby dance in the Olympic Ice Stadium against AugsburgHome play-off rights in sight// DEL - PRE-REPORTOn Friday, EHC Red Bull München will play its last home game of the main round in the history of the Olympic Ice Stadium. For the final act, the Augsburg Panthers come to the sold-out Oberwiesenfeld (19:30 | live on MagentaSport & on our blog).
The 52nd matchday of the 2023/24 PENNY DEL season not only marks the end of the main round of the current season, but also the end of a chapter for our club. The derby against Augsburg is also our last home game of the main round at the venerable Olympia-Eisstadion before heading to the SAP Garden in the new season.
The upcoming playoff quarter-final against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg and all other possible playoff series this season will, of course, still be played at the Olympic Ice Stadium. Whether we open the series against the Lower Saxons on March 16 with a home game or play in Wolfsburg first will be decided on Friday evening. Advance ticket sales for the two confirmed home games in the quarter-finals start on March 11.

A first "farewell"
After a total of 361 DEL games since 2013 in our "beloved dump", as our stadium announcer Stefan Schneider affectionately calls the Olympic Ice Stadium, we're saying a quiet "goodbye" for the first time.
"We want to give our fans another derby win in our arena in the last home game of the main round and, of course, put Wolfsburg under pressure so that we might still get the home advantage," Koni Abeltshauser made clear.
The goal against the Augsburg Panthers will be the 241st and last win in total!
Big supporting program for the derby
In addition, we want to use the opportunity of the last game of the main round to say goodbye to our home team with various celebrations. To this end, we have planned some activities that will not only focus on the Olympic Ice Stadium, but also on you fans.
Among other things, there will be an autograph session with numerous club icons, and you can also acquire a piece of Munich ice hockey history in the form of a framed Plexiglas rarity. You can also look forward to a few surprises!
Will Wolfsburg drop points in Straubing?
In order to go into the playoff quarter-finals against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg with home ice, the Red Bulls absolutely have to finish fourth and swap places with the Grizzlys. The constellation is clear: Wolfsburg (87 points) are currently in fourth place, while Munich are in fifth with 86 points and a goal difference that is 13 goals better.
Wolfsburg are therefore likely to pick up a maximum of two points in the parallel game at Straubing Tigers, provided the Red Bulls score three against AEV. This game is also a special one for defenseman Jonathon Blum. "I played in this stadium for three years and have many great memories of the arena. We definitely want to end this chapter with a win."

Relegated for the second time
As in the previous season, the Augsburg Panthers will finish the season bottom of the table. This means that coach and manager Christof Kreutzer's team has once again been relegated. However, it is not yet clear whether the Fuggerstädter will actually have to play one level lower in the near future. For this to happen, either the Kassel Huskies or the Krefeld Pinguine, who are eligible for promotion, would have to win through in DEL2.
At the end of last year, things still looked good for the Panthers in the battle to stay in the league. The lead over Iserlohn, who were bottom of the table at the time, was a whopping twelve points. Since the beginning of January, however, hardly any points have been added to Augsburg's account. Even Anrei Hakulinen's 21 goals so far this season have not helped; the Finn is the top scorer with 37 points ahead of Chris Collins (35 points).
"Augsburg have nothing left to lose, but there's still a lot at stake for us. We'll put everything into it, it's another good test before the playoffs," said Blum. So we can look forward to an exciting and certainly emotional evening of ice hockey!
