The Rookie Bulls München U20 celebrates championship and DNL promotionDouble success for the juniors// CURRENTIt's not just EHC Red Bull München that has important games coming up in the playoffs. On Sunday, the Rookie Bulls München's U20 season finale took place in the SAP Garden. In the end, the junior team had two reasons to celebrate.
“The championship and the promotion mean a lot to such young people. You always play for titles and such successes are of course also beneficial for development,” was the summary of Andreas Brockmann, five-time German champion and coach of the U20 team, on Sunday afternoon.
Thanks to preliminary support, the team had everything back in their own hands on Sunday against EV Pfronten. In the end, the score was 13:1 for the U20, who are celebrating not only the Bavarian championship with this clear victory. In order to be able to advance to the higher league, a report from the regional association or club was required by the end of January – the Rookie Bulls submitted this in advance and thus also secured direct promotion from the Bayernliga to DNL Division 3.

// HIGHLIGHTS
Successful season despite age differences
In the 2024/2025 season, the squad of the Rookie Bulls München's U20 team consisted only of players born in 2006 and 2007, because the youth department, which was only set up last year, had no players of older ages available at the start of the season. This was a significant difference compared to other clubs, which were able to fall back on players born in 2004 and 2005. Three years make a significant difference in this age group, but it clearly did not hinder the success of the Rookie Bulls.
Andi Brockmann's team got off to a successful start to the season, but then lost important games against TEV Miesbach and TSV Erding in December last year. However, the Rookie Bulls, who are still unbeaten in this calendar year, fought back and clinched the title thanks to their better goal difference at the end of the season.

From the Bayernliga to the national level: what happens next?
With the promotion to DNL Division 3, there are changes that the Rookie Bulls have to adapt to. According to the new rules for the junior team, the maximum squad size is 25 field players and 3 goalkeepers per team.
It is certain that the Munich U20 selection for next season will consist of the age groups 2006, 2007 and 2008. During the past season, promising talents were already promoted from the U17 to the U20 team. In the coming weeks, the coaching staff will work on putting the team together in such a way that it will be competitive in the higher division in the coming season.
Brockmann reveals what the U20 players will be doing in the meantime: “The team has earned the right to party a little,” the coach allows with a smile, but adds: “They're not professionals, of course. On Monday, everyday life begins again and the vast majority have to go to school as usual.”
