Course of the game
The Eagles took the lead as early as the third minute: Marc Michaelis put the puck over the line on the rebound in overtime. The visitors continued to have the clearer chances in an intense game. From halfway through the first period, Munich got into the game better and better and gave Mannheim goalkeeper Arno Tiefensee more and more work to do. But the Eagles saved their 1:0 lead going into the break.
The Red Bulls started the middle period with a huge chance through Taro Hirose and did not let up as the game progressed. Mannheim came under more and more pressure and was increasingly challenged in its own defense. The Jackson team pressed for the equalizer and the chances for the hosts increased. However, the goal came from the other end. After winning the face-off, Jyrki Jokipakka fired the disc past friend and foe from distance (36') - 2:0 for the Eagles and also the score at the break.
The four-time German champions continued to attack in the final period. But Tiefensee and his teammates played flawlessly and forced the Red Bulls' goalie Evan Fitzpatrick to make some strong saves. Munich's goalkeeper left the ice with around two minutes remaining and a sixth outfield player came on. To no avail - the fourth match of the quarter-final series ended with a 2:0 win for Adler Mannheim.
