Course of the game
Schwenningen goalkeeper Michael Bitzer was in the spotlight right from the start, as the Red Bulls exerted a lot of pressure and created some good chances. However, Sebastian Uvira scored the opening goal for the Wild Wings in the eleventh minute. After that, the game continued as before: More possession and more chances for Munich, but they were unable to get the puck over the goal line and therefore went into the first break trailing 1-0.
After the heated final phase of the first period, the Red Bulls started the middle period twice short-handed. They survived this period unscathed, but not the Schwenningen powerplay that followed. In the 27th minute, Zach Senyshyn scored to make it 2:0 for the hosts. And it got worse: Munich struggled in vain to score the equalizer, the Wild Wings countered and were able to celebrate the 3:0 by Tyson Spink (32.). The home side defended this lead until the second break.
Coach Max Kaltenhauser's team was also unable to decisively overcome the Schwenningen defense in the final period. At the other end, the home side repeatedly conjured up danger in front of the Red Bulls' goal. With 51:26 minutes on the clock, Munich keeper Simon Wolf left the ice for a sixth outfield player. He returned just six seconds later as Philip Feist scored into an empty net to make it 4:0. Brett Ritchie made it 5:0 in the 56th minute and Arkadiusz Dziambor made it 6:0 in the 57th.
