Course of the game
The Red Bulls were resolute in their tackling right from the start and kept Bremerhaven's goalmouth busy. The Penguins were on the lookout for counter-attacks. Both teams played with great concentration in defense, so that there were neither clear chances nor goals. The teams went into the first break at 0-0.
The middle period was also error-free and lacking in chances - until the 27th minute. Then Ziga Jeglic made it 1:0 for the hosts in the powerplay. Munich then created several good opportunities to equalize. However, the Penguins scored the next goal again through Jan Urbas (34'), who beat two defenders. At the other end, the Red Bulls were still unable to overcome Bremerhaven goalie Kristers Gudlevskis and therefore had to take a 2:0 deficit into the second break.
The teams had barely returned from the dressing room when Bremerhaven's "Karawanken Express" struck for the third time: this time Miha Verlic made it 3:0 after 29 seconds in the final period. Munich continued to play bravely, but the Red Bulls were unable to score. Instead, Max Görtz increased the lead to 4:0 (53'), which also marked the final score.
