Monday, 24. April 2023 | DEL Champion EHC Red Bull München: Voices and Stats after Final
"Emotional, overwhelming, simply awesome!": Pure emotion after title winVoices & Stats on the finals series// WE ARE CHAMPIONS! The Red Bulls are back on the throne of the DEL. The 3:1 in Game 5 was the crowning of an outstanding season. Not only record coach Don Jackson was in tears. The voices & stats on the thrilling final series.
Don Jackson (Coach, Red Bull München): "Every title is emotional. We earned it this season. I'm happy for the players who worked hard for a year to get it. I have to thank my coaching colleagues Steve Walker, Pierre Allard and Patrick Dallaire - it wouldn't have been possible without them. And of course Christian Winkler, who put this incredible team together. I'm very grateful."
Patrick Hager (forward, Red Bull München): "We've had setbacks, lost finals together and it's incredibly nice that we finally got rewarded. We knew we needed a perfect year to win the title. In the moments when we were under pressure, we put our best ice hockey on the ice. Ingolstadt demanded everything from us, and in the end we deserved to win."

Champion Moments, Part I
Mathias Niederberger (Goalkeeper, Red Bull München): "It was a game at eye level, insanely intense. We had to survive a lot of time shorthanded and perform in overtime - fortunately we did that. To be able to become champions three times in a row is overwhelming. It takes an incredible amount of strength and energy, but it's all the more rewarding when you can hold the trophy in your hands. I'm insanely proud of the team."
Yasin Ehliz (forward, Red Bull München): "It's unbelievable. I came to Munich five years ago and waited a long time for this day. I am just happy. When it mattered in these playoffs, we were there - from the goalie to the defenders to the forwards."
Maximilian Kastner (forward, Red Bull München): "To become MVP feels insanely good. It surprised me a lot. It's an insane award, because you don't get that chance very often. I don't have words for it. I'm one who does the dirty work - and I like doing it. I'm not too good for anything. So I was able to do my part to reward players who hadn't won a title yet for their work."
Highlights: Red Bull München vs. ERC Ingolstadt (23.04.2023)
// DEL - HIGHLIGHTS
Konrad Abeltshauser (defender, Red Bull München): "It was extremely close, especially the last few games. We scored the goals at the right times and defended well. Surviving the shorthanded games gave us another real push today and then we scored the goal in our own overtime."
Frederik Tiffels (forward, Red Bull München): "It's unbelievable and beautiful. The last game is always the most difficult. We were behind today, the game was open until shortly before the end and then we score the goal at the end. Just awesome that it worked out."
French und Jackson
Mark French (coach, ERC Ingolstadt): "Our belief was great. We took the lead and had our moments to score more goals. But the guys can walk away from this season with their heads held high. There is a lot to be proud of. We have established a culture with excellent work ethic, great team spirit and selflessness. The guys have lived our identity 100 percent."
Daniel Pietta (forward, ERC Ingolstadt): "We were close this year. I've never been this close to the title in 20 years. Except for Game 2, all the games were close. When you score on the power play, the momentum changes. We didn't manage that in this series. Munich is the deserved winner in the end, they played an outstanding season and an outstanding final series."
Jonas Stettmer (goalie, ERC Ingolstadt): "When you only score one goal in the games, it's hard to win. For me personally, it was an incredibly emotional up and down with an unfortunately painful end. The disappointment is huge at the moment, of course."

Statistics
Don Jackson has done it again. The record coach of the German Ice Hockey League became DEL champion for the ninth time.
Curious: In every game of this tight final series, the away team fired more shots on goal than the home team - in Game 5, it was 27:29 from Munich's perspective. Overall, however, the Red Bulls had the edge with 136:116 shots on goal.
The special teams were the big difference in this final series and especially in Game 5: Munich took advantage of one of three overtime opportunities (33.3 percent) in the decisive game for the decisive 2-1 lead through Andreas Eder, while Ingolstadt came up empty on seven power plays.
1.4 goals conceded per game, 94 percent of shots blocked - Mathias Niederberger was a wall in the final series. The Munich goalkeeper became champion for the third time in a row and is now the only goalkeeper besides Rob Zepp (then Eisbären Berlin) to have achieved this.
Meister-Grafik
Maximilian Kastner was voted MVP of the 2023 finals series. Our forward scored three goals in the five games against Ingolstadt, including the equalizer in the 3:1 win in Game 5, but also shined by doing the "dirty work."
The best scorer in the final series was Ben Smith with five points (three goals, two assists). One of his most important moments: The 1-0 opening goal in the hard-fought Game 4 (3-0) in Ingolstadt.
Yasin Ehliz and Filip Varejcka each scored seven goals in these playoffs. The two Munich players thus share first place in the scoring charts. Playoff top scorer is Ben Street with 17 points (15 assists).
All four: Konrad Abeltshauser, Maximilian Kastner, Andreas Eder, Daryl Boyle and Danny aus den Birken were part of all four championship titles of the Red Bulls.
