Gameplay
Both teams offered a match with high intensity from the first second on. Red Bull München had more drive for goal than the compact hosts. However, because both teams defended flawlessly, no goals were scored in the first period.
The second period was similar: Munich and Ingolstadt defended consistently in front of their own goals, but the Red Bulls had the better chances. Austin Ortega, for example, missed twice from close range on the first power play of the game (27th). On the other side, Mathias Niederberger made a great save against Wojciech Stachowiak (34.). In the end, the second period also ended goalless.
Munich immediately put on the pressure in the final period and was rewarded in the 48th minute: Smith grabbed the disc in the neutral zone, skated alone towards the Ingolstadt goal and converted ice-coldly. In the following period, the Red Bulls defended very compactly and repeatedly appeared dangerously in front of ERC goalie Jonas Stettmer. He left his box 1:46 minutes before the end. Then followed a super save by Niederberger, before McKiernan and Kastner (60.) each scored into the empty net for the 3-0 final score. Don Jackson's team now needs one more win to win the title.
