Gameplay
Little happened in front of the goals until the seventh minute, when Ty Ronning put the visitors ahead with a fluke goal. The Red Bulls then increased the tempo, but Ingolstadt held their own and Jonas Stettmer kept his box clean until the 13th minute. Kastner's direct shot left the Panther keeper powerless. The pace remained high after that, the duels were hard fought, but another goal was not scored before the first intermission.
In the middle period, the Red Bulls worked on their second goal. Austin Ortega had one of several good opportunities in overtime (29th). From the 33rd minute, Ingolstadt played almost continuously in overtime, but Mathias Niederberger and his front men successfully defended the Munich goal. The score was 1-1 going into the second intermission.
The Red Bulls were also outnumbered at the start of the final period, but even in a 3-on-5, the strong Niederberger could not be defeated. Munich did better in their own overtime: Eder slammed the puck into the corner for 2:1 in the 52nd minute. Ingolstadt then increased the risk. When the Panthers brought on the extra outfielder, Munich put the lid on it. Varejcka put the finishing touches on it with his empty-net goal to make it 3:1. The Red Bulls are the German champions.
