Gameplay
The first period started with an early Nuremberg powerplay, which the Red Bulls survived without any damage. After that, Munich increased the tempo and had its own first overtime situation. Patrick Hager worked hard in front of the goal, Tiffels benefited from this and pushed the puck over the line for 1:0 (11th minute). Because Niederberger made a brilliant save against Gregor MacLeod in the 16th minute, it remained the narrow lead after 20 minutes.
A fast-paced and contested duel also in the middle period. After Niederberger thwarted Elis Hede's big chance (22nd), the Red Bulls shifted up a gear. Niklas Treutle in the Nuremberg goal took center stage and showed good saves, but he could not prevent the 2:0 by Eder (29th). The Ice Tigers' answer followed promptly: Patrick Reimer shortened the gap from close range (31). However, Munich was not impressed by this. The league leader kept up the pressure and went into the second period break with a 3:1 lead thanks to Redmond's goal (36th).
The Red Bulls defended compactly on defense and remained very dangerous offensively, such as in the 45th minute when Ben Smith only hit the post. The Ice Tigers tried everything again, but Munich closed the bag in the 53rd minute: Kastner deflected a shot by Redmond for the 4:1 final score.
