Course of the game
The Red Bulls got off to a dream start, with Eisenschmid aiming straight into the corner after just 126 seconds to take the lead. The preparatory work came from DEL newcomer Hirose. Just three minutes later, Eder increased the lead to 2:0 with a powerful shot (6.). The playful Munich team combined to create further chances, but both the post after a shot by Veit Oswald (7.) and Roosters goalkeeper Andreas Jenike saved for the hosts. As Iserlohn worked to close the gap in the final minutes of the first period, Ehliz ice-coldly made it 3:0 at the other end (20.).
The Roosters came back in the middle period. First Sven Ziegler reduced the deficit (22.), before Branden Troock completed Iserlohn's double just 27 seconds later (23.). The duel became more heated and the powerplay formations of both teams were now allowed to show themselves several times. Ehliz put the puck on the crossbar in Munich's superior numbers (25.), but Iserlohn also had chances. Michael Dal Colle converted one of them one second before the second period break to equalize at 3:3.
Events came thick and fast in the final period. Munich first survived a long spell short-handed without conceding another goal and then struck for the fourth time: Hirose took the shot and the puck bounced off DeSousa into the net (45.). However, the lead did not last long, as Iserlohn equalized again through Shane Gersich (47.). Four minutes later, Tyler Boland converted a penalty to give the Roosters the lead for the first time (51.) - 5:4, which Weber equalized with his first goal in the German top flight (55.). Half a minute later, Hirose also celebrated his goal debut - and put Munich back on the winning track. It remained exciting until the final minute. That's when DeSousa sealed the deal with an empty-net goal to make it 7:5.
