On the European stage, the Tigers were beaten 2:4 by the ZSC Lions in the first leg of the round of 16 on Tuesday.
A rare feeling, because coach Tom Pokel's team has recovered after a complicated start to this DEL main round (only three points in six games). The Tigers have turned the tables in recent weeks, winning five of their last six DEL games and climbing into mid-table.
Straubing's upward trend in numbers
The statistics underline the upward trend: In the first eight games, Straubing averaged 0.75 points (goal balance: 17:29), since then it has been 2.13 points per game with 31:19 goals - also because the power play with the powerful defender Marcel Brandt is working better again.
Another reason is that the top scorers have improved: Taylor Leier has been involved in nine Tigers goals in the past six games, Joshua Samanski and JC Lipon in eight goals each. The trio has made the difference in recent weeks.
Goalkeepers not yet in top form
One area of concern is the goalkeeper position: Zane McIntyre and Florian Bugl have defended less than 90 percent of shots on goal so far. The Tigers goalies have the weakest combined save percentage in this DEL season. Although Straubing have allowed the second fewest shots on goal, they have conceded 48 goals.
