Former Munich player Peterka on the Buffalo Sabres team
The NHL will be visiting the Bavarian capital for the second time in its history. In 1990, the Edmonton Oilers visited Munich and won 8:4 against EC Hedos München. 34 years later, the Buffalo Sabres will follow. This will be Red Bull München's first encounter with a team from the premier ice hockey league in the world.
For one Sabres player, there could be a spectacular reunion in September. Sabres forward JJ Peterka will be returning to his birthplace when the Sabres visit Munich to face off against his former team. The 22-year-old learned to skate in the Munich junior team and honed his talent at the Red Bull ice hockey academy and matured into a top prospect in the professional teams of Red Bull Salzburg and Red Bull München. He was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres organization in 2020 and made his NHL debut in 2021.
