"Bullet Time" shoot in the Olympic ice stadiumExceptional shots including making-of// NEWSHollywood at Oberwiesenfeld: that's how Lars Scharl's "Bullet Time" shoot with Dominik Bittner at the Olympic Ice Stadium could probably be summarized. The photographer used an elaborate technique to visually transport our defender into the Matrix.It is one of the most famous scenes in cinema history and at the same time a groundbreaking moment for the action movie genre: Neo, the protagonist of the Hollywood blockbuster "Matrix", dodges bullets fired in super slow motion. The image revolves around the character played by actor Keanu Reeves without him moving much.

One of our players, Bittner, has now been allowed to slip into this role. Photographer Scharl photographed the defender using the "bullet time" technique named after the Matrix scene. Not in the hail of bullets of the Matrix, but of course where there is no less action: on the ice.
75 camera images create the "bullet time" effect
And this is how it works: 75 cameras were placed in a semi-circle around Bittner during the shoot. These were linked together so that they were triggered at exactly the same moment. The large number of photos taken simultaneously from slightly offset positions creates the impression in post-production that the moment of action has been frozen.

A punch and wrist shot, various running motifs and hard braking including a large cloud of snow dust were filmed. Bittner: "Until now, I'd only really seen this in the movies. It's extremely exciting to see something like this live. I can't wait to see what it looks like on the ice later on."
Don't worry: the result is definitely something to be proud of.
