Course of the game
After a brief feeling-out period at the start, Cologne took advantage of the first overtime situation to take the lead: Louis-Marc Aubry scored with a direct shot in the 5th minute to make it 1:0 for the Sharks. But Munich's reply was not long in coming. Blum made it 1:1 four minutes later. A game developed with a lot of speed, chances on both sides and a little more work for Red Bulls goalie Mathias Niederberger. However, no further goals were scored in this period and the score remained 1:1 at the first break.
And this result only lasted a short time in the middle period: Eisenschmid reacted quickest in front of goal 3:03 minutes into the third period and put the puck in the Sharks' goal after Koni Abeltshauser's shot hit the post to make it 2:1. The Red Bulls now had the upper hand, defended consistently even when short-handed and increased their lead: first through Eder to 3:1 (34'), then Eisenschmid made it 4:1 with a short-handed shot (36'). They went into the second break with this result.
Red Bull München continued to press at the start of the final period, but Cologne were able to celebrate when Stanislav Dietz made it 2:4 (45'). Hope for the Sharks? A few minutes later, Abeltshauser played a fine pass in front of goal and Parkes shot the disc into the net to make it 5:2 for Toni Söderholm's team (48'). However, the KEC came close once again as Dietz reduced the deficit to 3:5 with his second goal (58'). However, champions Munich were not impressed and Ortega scored into the empty Sharks' goal to make the final score 6:3 (60').
