Course of the game
Munich started aggressively, Graz was effective. Michael Kernberger put the 99ers ahead with the first shot on goal (3rd). The Austrians then defended consistently. Munich hardly had any open shots. One of the exceptions was Tobias Rieder's great chance, but Graz goalie Jonas Gunnarsson was wide awake (18). At the other end, Simon Wolf made several good saves to prevent the Red Bulls from falling further behind at the first period break.
Graz got off to a better start. Munich survived two dangerous situations - and then took control themselves. Gunnarsson now had to intervene more often. In the 30th minute, the Swede in the 99ers goal was beaten for the first time. His compatriot Johansson scored the equalizer after a fine assist from Nikolaus Heigl. After that, both teams fought an open duel with good chances. However, no further goal was scored before the second break.
The final period went back and forth at high speed. However, there were no high-caliber goals at first. The Red Bulls increased the pressure in the final phase. Markus Eisenschmid took three direct shots during a power play, but Gunnarsson prevented Munich from taking the lead (56'). The score remained 1:1 until the final minute, when Rieder pushed the puck over the line to give the Red Bulls a 2:1 win.
