The Grizzlys started aggressively and with a lot of speed. Munich was not impressed at first and stood defensively stable. And when Wolfsburg came to the end, Mathias Niederberger was reliable. Just when the Red Bulls started to make their first offensive moves, the hosts struck twice: Tyler Morley scored to give Wolfsburg the lead (16th), Darren Archibald made it 2-0 at the break 19 seconds later.
The Munich team came out of the dressing room with a lot of verve and even had a top chance through Maximilian Kastner (23rd) while shorthanded. The Red Bulls were rewarded after 28 minutes with Varejcka's equalizer. Subsequently, Munich pressed for the equalizer. Grizzlys goalie Dustin Strahlmeier had plenty to do and held Wolfsburg's narrow lead until the siren.
Red Bull München continued to exert pressure on Wolfsburg's goal in the final period. But the Grizzlys were the first to cheer: Spencer Machacek increased the lead to 3:1 for the hosts (48th). The Red Bulls continued to storm and reduced the score to 2:3 after 54 minutes through Hager. High tension in the final phase: 3:15 minutes before the end Niederberger left the Munich goal, six field players fought for the equalizer. In vain.
