A dream start for the Red Bulls in the first semifinal match: In the 2nd minute, Parkes pushed the puck over the line for 1:0. As Munich kept its foot on the gas pedal, Wolfsburg goalie Dustin Strahlmeier was under constant fire and had to get the puck out of the net for the second time (7th). Johansson scored from the blue line. After 20 minutes and 22:6 shots on goal, it was 2:0 for Munich.
Wolfsburg started better in the middle period: Matt Lorito scored the equalizer (23rd) and Mathias Niederberger had to shine several times in the following. The Grizzlys offensively, but the Red Bulls countered ice-cold: Wolfsburg moved up, dream pass Patrick Hager, Kastner into the crease (28.). Shortly after, Eder increased to 4:1 (29.). But the guests did not give up and reduced twelve seconds before the end of the period by Gerrit Fauser to the 2:4 break score.
The Grizzlys tried to close the gap again, but Munich controlled the action in the final period and defended compactly. Then in the 54th minute the 5:2 for the Red Bulls: Ehliz deflected perfectly. Four minutes before the final siren, Wolfsburg took the goalkeeper off the ice, pushed for the third goal, but could no longer find a gap in the Munich defense. Red Bull München won Game 1 of the semifinal series 5:2.
