Course of the match
After the emotional banner ceremony to honor former Munich captain Michael Wolf, who led the Red Bulls to three consecutive championship titles, the two teams initially engaged in an open exchange of blows. Taro Hirose gave Munich the lead after just a few seconds. As the game progressed, the four-time champions took control, but Iserlohn defended attentively. The fans had to wait almost 17 minutes for the next big chance. Hirose appeared in front of the Roosters goal again after a dream pass from Blum, but Hendrik Hane prevented the visitors from going behind with his pads. The teams went into the first break scoreless.
The Red Bulls came out of the dressing room with a lot of energy and enthusiasm, Iserlohn got into trouble as a result. The Roosters were able to take a brief breather after a penalty against Kaltenhauser's team, but the visitors did not manage any notable shots in the powerplay. Munich's superior units did better, as Eisenschmid scored with a direct shot in the 32nd minute to make it 1:0. Shortly afterwards, another Iserlohn player was sent to the cool box - and again the goal was scored. This time Blum's aim was precise (33'). After the double strike to make it 2:0, the Red Bulls played for the third goal, but no further goal was scored in the second period.
The Red Bulls played cleverly in the final period. Iserlohn chances like John Broda's shot on the post were the exception (48.). In the 52nd minute, however, Broda made it exciting once again with his goal. The visitors then threw everything forward and Mathias Niederberger was now challenged. Because the German international goalkeeper underlined his class several times, Munich were able to celebrate a 2:1 victory.
