Match report
Eder tested Tigers goaltender Zane McIntyre for the first time just a few seconds into the game, before Straubing took control. The hosts played a straightforward game and took the lead in the third minute through Travis St. Denis. München found their feet better after the goal, but the goals continued to fall on the other side: Tim Fleischer (16.) and Justin Braun in the power play (17.) scored a double to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.
On fresh ice, the Red Bulls increased the tempo in the middle section. While a power play situation in the early stages of the middle section did not result in a goal, München was rewarded in the 27. minute: Brooks deflected a shot from Will Butcher to make it 1:3. Shortly afterwards, McIntyre slid to stop a shot from Eder – only 2:3 (30. minute). Straubing remained dangerous and clinical in front of goal and could even have equalized, but Stephan Daschner (35.) and Michael Connolly (38.) extended the lead to 5:2. The teams went in at the second intermission with the score standing at 5:2.
In the final period, Straubing didn't concede much at first, but then a lost puck allowed Kastner to break free and cut the deficit to 3:5 (47.). The Red Bulls then tried to ramp up the pressure – without success. Even with a sixth skater on the ice, McIntyre remained unbeatable. On the other side, Skyler McKenzie finally sealed the win with an empty-net goal to make it 6:3 in the 58. minute.
