DEL Sustainability Matchday: raffle and activities in the SAP Garden

DEL Sustainability Matchday: raffle and activities in the SAP GardenWin an away trip for two people// CURRENTThe 44th matchday of the PENNY DEL is one of two in the league dedicated to sustainability. EHC Red Bull Munich will not only draw attention to the topic at the game against Schwenningen on Thursday, but will also launch several campaigns.
The German Ice Hockey League is resolutely continuing on its chosen path of anchoring the basic understanding of sustainability in sport. This season, the league is once again dedicating two match days to its cause, in which the clubs can participate. On Thursday, the Red Bulls will therefore also be paying special attention to the topic.
Here's how you can win an away trip of your choice
With the start of the season, we have integrated a new feature into our club app. There, every visitor can check their journey for ecological sustainability. When calculating the CO2 footprint, the best results are achieved by traveling on foot or by bike, for which 600 new parking spaces are available around the SAP Garden. Public transport also scores very well. On Thursday, you can not only check how sustainable your journey to SAP Garden is, but also win something at the same time.
On match day, our feature will be clearly visible on the home page of the app. You can also find it in the menu bar by tapping on the SAP Garden icon. Once you have completed a short form, you will not only receive information on the sustainability of your journey, but you will also automatically be entered into our prize draw. We are giving away 1x2 free travel tickets to and from a main round away game of your choice in 1st class with Deutsche Bahn. On top of that, you will also receive the tickets for the selected match free of charge.

In addition to the competition, other activities are planned around match day. For example, our waste disposal partner PreZero will be on site with its own information stand and will provide information on the topic of zero waste. There are no paper cups and trays in our arena. Instead, there are around 11,000 deposit cups and 1,800 deposit trays in circulation each match day, which drastically reduce waste production and thus prevent tons of waste. Our return rate for the deposit containers is almost 100%.
A small side note: Coach Don Jackson's players will also play against the Schwenninger Wild Wings in our home jerseys, which, like all our jerseys, are produced entirely in Europe and are made from 100 percent sustainable yarn. The referees' jerseys will also receive special attention on the 44th and 45th matchdays. All 28 main referees will wear special jerseys that incorporate Germany's so-called climate stripes (Warming Stripes according to Ed Hawkins), which visualize the long-term temperature trends of man-made global warming.
Own solar energy in the SAP Garden
Last year's move to the SAP Garden, where ecological, social and economic sustainability factors were taken into account in the construction plans from the outset, was another key building block in the club's sustainability strategy.

A total of 799 photovoltaic modules have been installed on the roof of our new home, which has been planted with the same grass mixture that can be found in the Olympic Park. These cover around 2000 square meters.
With the energy generated from this, we can supply one of our four ice rinks with solar power all year round. Any additional energy required to operate the SAP Garden is sourced from 100 percent green electricity. Fossil fuels are not used at all in our arena.
Waste heat from the cooling systems heats the SAP Garden
The waste heat generated by cooling the ice rinks is used to heat the interior. The arena itself is up to 20 meters underground. The natural cooling effect of the groundwater and the green roof ensure that external temperature fluctuations have little or no effect on the temperature inside the arena.
SAP Garden Lisenen
The only thing that can get the SAP Garden buzzing in no time at all are the fans in the stands when the hottest phase of the season gets underway after the international break on Thursday at 7:30 pm against the Schwenninger Wild Wings. There are no more tickets available for this game, making it the 14th time that the SAP Garden has been sold out for a DEL game.
