Gameplay
The Munich defense around debutant Adam Almquist was challenged at first, as the ZSC Lions pushed the tempo. The post and goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger prevented the Swiss from taking the lead. But the Red Bulls also had offensive actions. DeSousa made use of one of them after Nico Krämmer's preparation (14.). A little later, the lead wobbled in double shorthanded, but it remained at 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Munich started with momentum into the second period and appeared more often in front of ZSC keeper Simon Hrubec. Among other things, Hrubec saved a solo effort by Patrick Hager, but he was powerless against DeSousa's tap-in - 2:0 for the Red Bulls (26). Zurich reacted to the goal and shifted up a gear, but Niederberger was still a strong player in the middle period.
Things got heated up. Zurich put on the pressure in double overtime, but the Red Bulls successfully resisted the goal and did better in their own overtime: Ortega increased the lead to 3:0 (46th) after a great assist from DeSousa. However, the Swiss did not let up. In the 52nd minute Juho Lammikko broke Niederberger's bulwark - only 3:1. The ZSC Lions pressed for their second goal. But because Niederberger continued to shine, Munich's two-goal lead held until the end of the game.
