In his new role, Funk will act as a link between sports management and the team. His area of responsibility will include scouting, planning and organizing sports activities, as well as administrative tasks. The 54-year-old from Bad Tölz will report directly to the Managing Director Sports Red Bull Ice Hockey, Christian Winkler.
"With 'Lenz' we were able to win a man for our organization who has experienced and gotten to know practically all facets of German ice hockey. The name Funk stands for quality and reliability," explains Winkler.
Funk brings plenty of experience
As an active professional, the former national player spent 15 years in Germany's top division and won the championship title with the DEG in 1993 and 1996. After his playing career, he worked as managing director and sporting director for the Nürnberg IceTigers, was chairman of the disciplinary committee and head of the German Ice Hockey League's Department of Player Safety, and was the main contact person for the Winter Games in Nürnberg, Dresden and Düsseldorf.
