Course of the game
The Red Bulls got into the game quickly. Adam Brooks had the first good chance (2nd) for Toni Söderholm's team. A short time later, the Munich coach sent his powerplay units onto the ice for the first time, but the robust Czechs defended consistently, and not only in this situation. Pardubice were straightforward in their forward play, but Munich's defense around goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger also worked with concentration. In the final phase, Dynamo goalkeeper Roman Will thwarted the best chance of the first period against Varejcka, who had broken through (17'). The physical play continued in the middle period. The Red Bulls continued to have the better chances.
During a period of pressure, Andreas Eder hit the post (25') - Nikolaus Heigl was also just a few centimeters away from scoring the opening goal (27'). However, the first goal came from the other end: Matej Paulovic converted a pass into the slot to make it 0:1 (29'). However, Munich showed a strong response to the deficit and then turned the game around. First Varejcka finished off Brooks' preparatory work to make it 1:1 (34'), before Krämmer's goal 39 seconds before the break gave the Red Bulls a 2:1 lead after two periods.
Munich took the momentum into the final period. Daubner narrowly missed a third goal (41'). Pardubice then increased the pressure on Niederberger's goal. The Czech runners-up were then successful in the 45th minute: Lukas Sedlak made it 2:2 in the power play. Munich were not impressed by the equalizer. Söderholm's team wanted the win after 60 minutes, but no more goals were to be scored in regulation time.
In extra time, the Red Bulls fought back against defeat while short-handed. The crossbar saved twice for Niederberger before Martin Kaut gave the German goalkeeper no chance and scored the winner for the Czechs (64').
