Toni Söderholm is the new coach of the Red Bulls// PERSONALFormer national coach Toni Söderholm is the new coach of German ice hockey champions EHC Red Bull München.
The native of Finland was most recently active as coach of the 16-time Swiss champions SC Bern and is now returning to his old place of work. Söderholm will take over as head coach on May 1.
"Will continue his legacy with great respect"
Toni Söderholm, coach Red Bull München: "In 2019, I left the club in the hope of one day being able to work there as head coach. The fact that I am now returning to the Red Bulls organization is something very special for me and a great honor. I would like to thank Christian Winkler for the trust he has placed in me. It was on his initiative that I joined the coaching staff of the then champion team after my playing career ended. Here I had the opportunity and the honor to learn from Don Jackson, among others. Now I will continue his legacy with great respect."
Christian Winkler, Managing Director Sports Red Bull Ice Hockey: "With Toni, we now have a man on the sporting command bridge who started his coaching career here with us in the organization. He not only knows our environment very well, but also our philosophy. His mentality, expertise and character are an excellent match for our requirements profile. With him, we are best equipped for the tasks ahead."

From Bern to Munich
In the 2015/16 season, Söderholm still wore the Red Bulls jersey as a player and celebrated the first German championship in the club's history with the Munich team. The 45-year-old then joined the team's coaching staff. After more than two years as development coach of the Red Bulls and coach of Munich's cooperation partner SC Riessersee, Söderholm took over from Marco Sturm as national coach on January 1, 2019.
At the Deutsche Eishockey-Bund (DEB), the Finn shaped a successful era that culminated in a fourth-place finish at the 2021 World Championship in Latvia. After just under four years, Söderholm vacated the post of national coach in November 2022 to sign on as coach of SC Bern in the Swiss National League (NL).
Now Söderholm takes the reins at the Red Bulls, who won the title in Germany's top division for the fourth time on April 23 this year.
