Here we go again! Niederberger provides insights into the medical check

Here we go again! Niederberger provides insights into the medical check Red Bulls under the microscope// NEWSThe annual medical check for the EHC Red Bull München professionals started on Friday - and with it the season for the players. Ours are put through their paces, but also tested for their performance.
The likelihood that you will see more Red Bulls cars on the streets of Munich again from now on has increased significantly this week. All the players from the four-time German champions are back in the city. This is because the medical check is one of the first mandatory appointments on the agenda. Only those who are fit can deliver top performances.
For our goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger, the tests have long been routine. The German international goalkeeper explains what is examined during the internal and orthopaedic examinations: ‘Our blood and organs - such as the heart and lungs - are checked. We also check whether our joints are moving as they should.’
Niederberger's recipe for success: ‘A mix of strength, flexibility and endurance’
Endurance and strength are also tested. This can sometimes be more painful than a needle prick during a blood test. ‘The bike test is very strenuous and really hurts,’ says Niederberger - even though the 31-year-old goalkeeper is in top shape. Our number 35 has been proving this on the ice for years.

Niederberger focusses on balanced training in his preparation. ‘I focus on a mix of strength, flexibility and endurance,’ says the two-time DEL Goalkeeper of the Year. This means he already covers a large part of what is required in the medical check: ‘I've never had any problems during the examinations.’
Niederberger and colleagues with a ‘great hunger for success’
Before Niederberger started his personal summer training in July, however, he first focussed on rest and regeneration. ‘I was with the national team at the World Cup until the end of May. I took it easy in June,’ says the goalkeeper. His programme: ‘I was at my brother's wedding in Sardinia, in the USA and with my family in Düsseldorf.’
Niederberger is now looking forward to the new season and the increased workload. ‘I've already been on the ice with a training group in Bad Tölz,’ says Niederberger. Because he has high goals: ‘Everyone is hungry for success. And that makes me very confident.’ The best conditions for the first season in the SAP Garden.
