How do you know each other?
Brooks: “From our time together with the Toronto Marlies. It was my first year as a pro. Ben was captain, I was one of the young players. He was a very good mentor.”
In that 2017/18 season, you won the Calder Cup together, which is awarded to the winner of the AHL playoffs.
Brooks: “That was the best moment of my career so far. Winning the Calder Cup in my first professional year was something very special that I will never forget for the rest of my life.”
Now it's time for a reunion in Munich. Do you already know the city a little?
Brooks: “Last summer, I was here in Munich with one of my best friends. We went on a trip to Europe and visited Prague, Amsterdam, Berlin, Barcelona and Munich, among other places. We went to the Kiss concert at Königsplatz. Of course, we also did other classic tourist things. But I haven't been to the Oktoberfest yet. I've heard that we're going there with the team in traditional costume. I'm looking forward to it. Even my dad has already expressed interest in a pair of lederhosen.”
Your first season in the PENNY DEL starts before the Oktoberfest. What are your goals?
Brooks: “We want to play for the title. And I personally want to play my part in making sure we're successful. First of all, it's important that I get used to the larger ice surface and the new surroundings as quickly as possible. But I'm not worried about that - after all, it's part of my job.”
