Gameplay
High tempo and a lot of physical play, but initially few scoring scenes, because the offensively strongest teams of this DEL season shone in the defense. That changed in the seventh minute, when Ortega was free to finish - just a few centimeters were missing for Munich's lead. On the other side, Mathias Niederberger defused Maury Edwards' hard direct shot (8th). The game went back and forth, both teams came closer to scoring the first goal. Then, in the eleventh minute, the bell rang: Ortega followed up and put the Red Bulls in front 1:0.
In the middle period, there was immediately a lot of activity in front of both goals, and the quality of the chances was high. One of them was used by ERC forward Frederik Storm, who equalized from an acute angle (25th). Only 52 seconds later, the Red Bulls cheered again, as Ortega converted a solo effort ice-cold to make it 2-1 (26th). The physical duel then became heated, resulting in penalties. Ingolstadt played six minutes in overtime, but Munich defended strongly and went into the second intermission with the narrow lead.
Ingolstadt tried a lot in the final third, but the Red Bulls were extremely attentive. Niederberger rarely had to intervene and when the national goalkeeper was needed, he was on the spot. It remained exciting until shortly before the end of the game. When the Panthers brought on the extra outfielder, Munich put the lid on it: Varejcka scored an empty-net goal to make the final score 3:1 (60th).
