Course of the game
EHC Red Bull München had to do without coach Max Kaltenhauser for the game in Iserlohn. The 43-year-old was unable to make the trip to the Sauerland due to a dental surgery scheduled at short notice. Co-coach Pierre Allard and Manuel Latusa (coach of the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy's U18 team) stood in for him and saw the Red Bulls get off to a powerful start. In the course of the third period, however, the Roosters were able to keep the game even. In the 13th minute, Munich goalie Mathias Niederberger even had to save a penalty from Tyler Boland. Ultimately, both teams were unsuccessful in offense and the teams went into the first intermission tied 0-0.
Munich also had the first good chances in the middle period. Iserlohn were particularly dangerous on the powerplay. However, it took some time before the first goal was scored: In the 32nd minute, Brooks made it 1:0 for the Red Bulls after captain Patrick Hager's assist. With this sense of achievement behind them, the visitors continued with determination - but without scoring again. The score after 40 minutes: 1:0 for Munich.
The Red Bulls' dominance continued in the final period. The Munich team was strong and determined, but repeatedly found their master in Roosters goalkeeper Andreas Jenike. Not so in the 49th minute, when Ehliz crowned an elegant slalom run in superior numbers with the 2:0. Iserlohn then took more risks. In vain - the Red Bulls' defense held, the offense struck again. Blum's shot found its way into the Munich goal to make it 3:0 (54'). The score remained that way until the final buzzer: three points for EHC Red Bull Munich, a shutout for Niederberger.
