If Don Jackson would just shout "Ben" loudly in the dressing room, there's a pretty good chance two heads would turn in his direction. Because we're lucky to have two top-class center forwards in our ranks in Smith and Street. The only "problem": they share the same first name.

Just like dad

Our boys make a virtue out of necessity. "Smitty" and "Streeter" sound a lot cooler than Ben and Ben, don't they? Most nicknames aren't too complicated and can be derived from the first or last name. Others, however, require a bit more context.

Filip Varejcka's is no exception. The 21-year-old is called "Uno" in the team. "Filip got his nickname from Teemu Levijoki, who was one of our coaches in the Red Bull Eishockey Akademie. But there is no special background," Maksymilian Szuber reveals to us. Youngster Veit Oswald is occasionally called by the name of his father Günter, who used to play in the German national ice hockey team. Meanwhile, he has been working as Managing Director Academy & Youth at the Red Bull Eishockey Akademie for a few months.
