Game play
The Red Bulls were clearly superior in the first period and always had good ideas on offense. Bietigheim had to chase a lot, but could rely on keeper Sami Aittokallio. The Finn was on the spot several times - among others against Jonathon Blum (2.). On the other side, Mathias Niederberger had to intervene for the first time after eleven minutes against Teemu Lepaus. Despite Munich's dominance, the game went into the first break without a goal.
After the break, the Red Bulls played better, but Bietigheim was now more courageous and had too much space in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Guillaume Naud used this for the surprising lead. Munich, however, was not shocked, but with the perfect answer through Ortega, who scored the equalizer with a lot of overview (33rd). The preliminary work came from captain Hager, who added the 2:1 two minutes later (35.).
The final period started with a power play by Munich: Parkes took advantage of this opportunity and made it 3:1 (42.). After that, the Red Bulls were clever and cool. Steelers chances, such as Lepaus' finish (49th), which Niederberger brilliantly saved, were the exception. Shortly afterwards, Hager scored his brace - 4:1 for the leaders (50th). Bietigheim created some more suspense with an overtime goal by Chase Berger (52.), but in the 57th minute Ortega put the lid on it with the 5:2.
