Championship duel in Berlin: Red Bulls host the Eisbären
Saturday, 14. October 2023 | DEL Preview: EHC Red Bull München as guests of Eisbären Berlin
Championship duel in Berlin: Red Bulls host the EisbärenAndreas Eder meets brother Tobias// DEL - PREVIEWLess than 48 hours after the home game against Wolfsburg (0:1), EHC Red Bull München is challenged in the German capital. There, the reigning German champions will face their predecessors on Sunday at 3:15 p.m.: the resurgent Eisbären Berlin.
The Red Bulls' home series in the PENNY DEL has been snapped after three wins. A good time to start a run away from home. However, things are not yet going well away from home (one win in four games). We want to improve our record in Berlin. That won't be easy, because the Eisbären are in the championship form of the 2021 and 2022 seasons. The October record of the league leader is impressive: six games, 13 points, 26:8 goals. New goalkeeper Jake Hildebrand twice kept his box clean. Encouragement: On Friday, the Polar Bears were defeated 3:4 in the shootout against Straubing.

Andreas Eder: "There's also this colleague"
Goalie Hildebrand has hit the ground running in Berlin. And he's not the only transfer hit. "There's also this colleague whose name I don't want to mention," says our striker Andreas Eder with a twinkle in his eye. He means his younger brother Tobias. He switched from the Düsseldorf EG to the capital and has made a good start there.
By the way, the Eder brothers played together for Munich until 2019. For their parents, it was easy back then. They cheered on the Red Bulls. But who can enjoy the support this time? "Tobi only lives at home two weeks a year and I'm there 365 days. Of course, I hope they'll keep their fingers crossed for me," Andreas quips.

Side changers: 3:2 for Munich
Besides his brother Tobias, there are other players who have changed colors. Also new in Berlin is Frederik Tiffels, who moved directly from Munich to the German capital.
We even have three former Berliners in the squad: Austin Ortega, Ryan McKiernan and goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger. The latter moved to Munich after two championship titles with the Eisbären. There, he completed his personal title hat trick last season. You did everything right, Mathias!

Red Bulls on top in last duel
Thanks in part to our former Eisbären, we won all four direct duels in the last main round. The Red Bulls' away record is also impressive, with six wins in the last seven Berlin visits.
Finally, back to the Eders. How does it actually go before a brotherly duel: Does communication increase or decrease? "It has increased," says Andreas. The explanation: "Tobi has to invite me to dinner this time. But among his suggestions were questionable restaurants. So we had more contact to narrow down the choices. I'm glad we were able to agree on an Italian." So the elder Eder has scored the first small success. The second victory he wants to follow on Sunday with the Red Bulls.
