Course of the game
Tough duels and uncompromising defensive formations characterized the game in the first period. Thus, the Grizzlies' shots on goal in the first power play remained the best chances for a long time (3.). Afterwards, the Red Bulls had much more of the game and put the guests under pressure for a long time. But too seldom they came so freely to the conclusion as Filip Varejcka in the 16th minute. On the other side, Daniel Allavena prevented a Munich deficit against Andy Miele (20th) at the first break.
Shortly after the break, Nolan Zajac scored 0:1 for Wolfsburg (22nd). However, the Red Bulls quickly recovered from the deficit and took control again, while the guests lurked for pinpricks. Top chances on both sides were the result - including goals on the post by Munich's Markus Eisenschmid (31st) and Jonathon Blum (36th) as well as by Grizzlies forward Chris Wilkie (35th). However, another goal was not to be scored in the middle period.
Aggressively and with high speed, the Red Bulls played forward in the final period. In the very first minute, the Munich team had a triple chance, followed by other top-class chances - but Strahlmeier was the final stop. Even when coach Söderholm brought in the sixth field player in the final minutes, there was no getting past the goalkeeper of the guests. So it remained 0:1 and the first home defeat of the Munich team after three victories in their own stadium.
