Champion against league leader: Red Bulls welcome the Kölner Haie
Thursday, 21. September 2023 | DEL preview: EHC Red Bull Munich receives Kölner Haie
Champion against league leader: Red Bulls welcome the Kölner HaieEisenschmid: "Definitely a top game".// DEL - PREVIEWAfter taking four points from the first two games, the Red Bulls face the next acid test on Friday with the Kölner Haie. The Rhinelanders are currently the only team in the PENNY DEL with six points.
The Kölner Haie are no longer a secret favorite in the race for the German championship. The team has once again made notable additions to its roster in the summer and is the only club in the league with two wins after two days of regular season play.
After an impressive 5:1 win against the Nürnberg Ice Tigers, the Sharks also beat last year's finalist Ingolstadt with a commanding 4:1 victory. The Red Bulls followed up their 4-2 opening win over the Düsseldorfer EG with a point after a penalty shootout against Mannheim. It was a close game in which we only narrowly lost out.
Accordingly, EHC Red Bull Munich wants to face the Sharks on Friday (7:30 p.m.) with respect, but quickly make it clear that for the Domstädter it is against no less than the German champion. Students, trainees and pupils over the age of 18 pay only 10 euros for a standing-room ticket. After the game, your ticket will get you into the "Call me Drella" free of charge, where you can get a free Vodka Red Bull. You can buy your tickets here.

"We can expect a top match"
"Cologne has upgraded a lot and we expect a very good team. But as defending champions, it is our claim to want to win every game. We are not afraid of Cologne," Veit Oswald approaches the game confidently.
Our new striker Markus Eisenschmid also wants to "give everything to win the game". In doing so, our number 11 expects a top game in which no one will give anything to the other. "We can definitely expect a top game," Eisenschmid promises, explaining, "Two top teams are meeting. Cologne has strengthened well and they have proven in recent years that they can play in the upper half of the table. They are not the only team with a clean slate for nothing."
Schütz back at Oberwiesenfeld
Friday will also see a reunion with an old acquaintance. Justin Schütz, who joined the Red Bulls organization at the age of 14 and was a key component of our championship team last year, has joined the Sharks this summer. The 23-year-old has had an impressive start to the young season, scoring a goal and two assists in the first two games of the season.
"I think everyone here will treat Justin with respect. He'll have to be prepared for a lot of spells, though. But it will certainly be a nice reunion," Oswald is looking forward to his ex-colleague.

Strong home record against Cologne
Our record against the Cologne Sharks is impressive: We have won eight of the last ten home games against the current league leaders. Although we were beaten 4-2 in the last game, we have a good overall record against the team of former national team coach Uwe Krupp.
On Friday, we want to beat the league leader and, with a win, move past Cologne at the same time.
