Saturday, 26. October 2024 | DEL Preview: EHC Red Bull Munich welcomes ERC Ingolstadt to the SAP Garden
Home derby against Ingolstadt: Red Bulls face resurgent Panthers// DEL - PREVIEWIt's derby time again this Sunday at the SAP Garden. On family match day, EHC Red Bull Munich will host Bavarian rivals ERC Ingolstadt at 4.30 pm (live on MagentaSport, on our blog & Sportdeutschland.TV).
On Friday evening, the Red Bulls were beaten for the first time in their fifth away game of the season. In the Black Forest, the scoreboard showed a 3:4 draw against the Schwenninger Wild Wings after a penalty shoot-out. Our boys now want to build on their strong home performance against the NürnbergIce Tigers just under a week ago(4:0 win).
The runners-up from Ingolstadt have one more day to recover than Munich. The Panthers already lost 2:4 to league leaders Eisbären Berlin in the PENNY DEL top game on Thursday evening, followed by a 4:2 win over Bremerhaven and a 2:6 defeat on the road in Nürnberg.
Back to old strength
Nevertheless, the team's haul of 27 points from the first twelve games is still very good, so the start to the season has been more than successful. The main reason for this was a long winning streak at the start. Mark French's team got off to a flying start, winning eight games in a row between matchday 2 and 9.

After a rather disappointing last season, which ended with a playoff exit in the quarter-finals against Bremerhaven, the 2023 runners-up can now be fully reckoned with again.
New signing duo hits the ground running
Some of the new arrivals have solved the main problem of effectiveness in front of the opposition's box. Offensive defender Alex Breton and striker Myles Powell are representative of this. With 48 points for HC Kosice, Breton was recently the best defenseman in the Slovakian Extraliga. With seven goals and six assists already, the 26-year-old is seamlessly continuing this trend in Germany. The US-American Powell came to the Upper Bavarians from the Swedish club IF Björklöven and already has 14 scoring points (ten assists) to his name.

Well-known DEL names in the line-up
Riley Sheen usually strikes alongside him. The DEL top scorer and player of the year for the 2021/22 season (40 goals for Bietigheim) found his way back to Germany from EV Zug and hasn't lost his scoring touch. Attackers such as Kenny Agostino (eight points, came from Düsseldorf) and Daniel Schmölz (ten points, new from Nuremberg) have also shown in the past that they are among the top forwards in the league. And well-known names, including defender and captain Fabio Wagner and center Daniel Pietta, are also still on board.
Last season, Ingolstadt won three out of four games against Munich, but the last duel went to us by the narrow margin of 2:1 after overtime. It is likely to be similarly close again on Sunday.
