Final rematch: The champion as guest in Ingolstadt
Saturday, 07. October 2023 | DEL Preview: EHC Red Bull Munich at ERC Ingolstadt
Final rematch: The champion as guest in Ingolstadt"Will give everything to beat them".// DEL - PREVIEWWith three home victories in a row in their luggage, EHC Red Bull München travels to the Danube on Sunday. The finalists of the past PENNY DEL season will meet for the first time this season in the derby at ERC Ingolstadt at 4:30 pm.
With the full points from the home three-game set in just five days against Frankfurt (5:2), Nuremberg (5:3) and Iserlohn (4:0), the Red Bulls are currently on a winning streak. Besides Mathias Niederberger, who recorded his first shutout of the season against the Roosters, Veit Oswald was in the spotlight on Thursday night. The youngster scored his first-ever DEL goal in his second year in his 33rd game for the German champions. "Of course I'm very happy about that. I'm just happy," the 19-year-old beamed after the game. This special moment will, of course, last forever. "Every ice hockey player remembers his first goal. But I want to score many more," said the young attacker. Preferably even as early as Sunday in the derby with ERC Ingolstadt.

// DEL - HIGHLIGHTS
Big bloodletting in Ingolstadt forward line
The Schanzers can rely on a number of regulars from last year's runner-up team on defense. New addition is the US-American Devin Williams (EV Regensburg, DEL2), who forms the goalie team with regular goalie Michael Garteig. Kevin Maginot (20 scorer points for the Löwen Frankfurt) and ex-Munich player Luca Zitterbart, who moved to Ingolstadt from Düsseldorf, are to further strengthen the defense.
On offense, however, important players such as Frederik Storm (Cologne), Justin Feser (Wolfsburg), Ty Ronning (Berlin) or Stefan Matteau (Columbus Blue Jackets) left the team. However, these four cornerstones were adequately replaced on paper. Center forward Andrew Rowe (SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers) brings a lot of experience and quality with his 35 years, the Finn Patrik Virta was Finnish champion and Champions League winner with Tappara Tampere last year as assistant captain. Travis St. Denis brought 26 goals and 54 points to the Danube most recently with the Straubing Tigers, and Casey Bailey was one of the absolute pillars of the offense for three years in Iserlohn.
Back on the Throne: Munich German Champion for the Fourth Time
Last round's final series between the Red Bulls and the ERC was not only the highlight of last season, but also the first Bavarian derby in a final matchup in DEL history. In five high-class games, our boys finally prevailed and brought the fourth championship to Oberwiesenfeld.
In the current season, the Ingolstadt team is still struggling. On Friday, the finalists of the previous season lost the derby in Straubing with 1:3. With nine points from eight games so far, the Danube city team is only in tenth place in the table.

Champion Moments, Part I
Record against Ingolstadt
The memories of our derby rivals are still fresh and our record is more than respectable. Starting in October 2021, Munich won ten games in a row against Ingolstadt before the Schanzers broke this streak in the eleventh game.
We haven't lost at Ingolstadt's Saturn Arena since April 2021, which is now six matches in a row. So the omens for Sunday are clear. "They're behind us in the standings, but it won't be easy. We will give everything to beat them," Oswald promises.
