Beaten Lions: Red Bulls want another three-pointer against Frankfurt
Saturday, 06. January 2024 | DEL preview: EHC Red Bull Munich welcomes Löwen Frankfurt
Beaten Lions: Red Bulls want another three-pointer against FrankfurtRed Bulls aim to make it nine points from three games// DEL - PRELIMINARY REPORTAfter two wins to start the year, EHC Red Bull Munich will host Löwen Frankfurt on Sunday. The third clash of the season against the Hessians will take place at 14:00 at the Olympia-Eisstadion (live on MagentaSport & on our blog).
After a dream start to the current calendar year with a 6:1 win against Adler Mannheim in front of a home crowd, the Red Bulls want to add the next three points to their points account in their second home game of the year. If you look at the direct record against Frankfurt, the chances of this are extremely good. Our boys have won the last five games against the Lions all season, in each case after regulation time. So far this season, Munich have had the upper hand with 5:2 and 4:2. Chris DeSousa netted in both games, while Yasin Ehliz and Nico Krämmer both collected three scoring points (one goal and two assists each). Ben Smith has also scored against Frankfurt this season. Our striker will play his 300th DEL game on Sunday.

Family match day at Oberwiesenfeld
The game against Hesse is all about the family. Meaning: You can save a lot of money if you come to the Red Bulls with your whole family. Still in free fall
Head coach Matti Tiilikainen's team has been anything but smooth sailing of late. Since the start of December, they have managed just one win from 13 games, while Frankfurt have recently suffered nine defeats in a row. As a result, the Lions now have to worry about tenth place again.
Our upcoming opponents also left the ice without any points in their home game against Bremerhaven on Friday. The Penguins won 3:2.

Unease at the Lions
Despite the current series of defeats, the Lions are trying to keep hopes high. "The players have our full support, but they are under no obligation to give their full performance for the team's success," sporting director Franz-David Fritzmeier made clear on the club's own website a few days ago.
The home game against Wolfsburg last Wednesday was indicative of the current phase. Frankfurt made up a 2:0 deficit in the middle third after a great comeback, but still came away empty-handed after 60 minutes.
The reason: top forward Carter Rowney made a momentous disc loss in his own third at 59:57 minutes and Grizzlys attacker Andy Miele scored three seconds before the end to secure an away win for the Lower Saxons.
Beware of the top trio
Three newcomers from last summer are still among Frankfurt's top scorers. The two forwards Cody Kunyk and Cameron Brace have already collected over 30 scorer points each.
