Course of the game
Munich started with a lot of speed, but Arno Tiefensee was the end of the line at the latest. The visitors' goalkeeper then had to reach behind him for the first time in the eighth minute, as DeSousa finished off an impressive assist from Maximilian Kastner in the power play - the champions' first goal of 2024 (8'). However, the Eagles' reply was not long in coming. Markus Hännikäinen equalized in the eleventh minute to make it 1:1. However, the Red Bulls switched back into forward gear immediately afterwards and were rewarded. 22 seconds before the break, it was former Mannheim player Krämmer who worked the puck into the net to make it 2:1.
In the middle period, the Red Bulls added four goals in the space of just over six minutes. First, Ehliz made his grand entrance: The German international increased the lead to 3:1 with his 200th DEL goal while short-handed (28'). DeSousa completed the double strike with a dream goal (30'). Munich continued to put the pedal to the metal and extended their lead through Eisenschmid (32) and Bittner (34). After the 6:1, Adler coach Dallas Eakins changed the goalkeeper: Felix Brückmann replaced Tiefensee. This was the score going into the second break.
The Red Bulls did not let up in the final period and kept the Kurpfalz team away from their own goal for the most part. And when the visitors did get a shot on goal, Mathias Niederberger was on the alert. At the other end, Brückmann prevented further Munich goals. The Red Bulls thus held on for a deserved 6:1 victory.
