Course of the game
Disciplined defense, little danger from the offense - that's how the opponents started the match. Nothing compelling until the 6th minute: Daubner shoveled the disc on goal and it found its own way into the Schwenningen net. Subsequently, the Munich team defended its lead only in almost four minutes of shorthanded, then had the game under control. Towards the end of the first period, there were even chances for another goal by the German champions. So it went into the first break with a deserved 1:0.
The middle period started wildly with opportunities on both sides. Initially, there were no goals, not even in the 1:53-minute 5-on-3 for the Red Bulls. After a heated phase in the middle of the match, Munich pressed for the second goal against the doggedly defending Wild Wings. However, Schwenningen had the biggest opportunity in a shorthanded counterattack - Mathias Niederberger made an outstanding save (35th). In the 39th minute, the Red Bulls goalie was then powerless: Ben Marshall scored with his backhand to make the score 1-1 at the break.
After 43 minutes, the Munich team was even behind as Peter Spornberger slammed the puck into the net from the blue line to make it 2-1 for Schwenningen. The Wild Wings now wanted the third goal, the furious Red Bulls the equalizer. From the 53rd minute, the champions had to endure five minutes of shorthanded play, managed to do so and then had a little more than two minutes for the final offensive. But before that really got rolling, William Weber scored into the empty goal of the visitors for the 3:1 final score for the Wild Wings (59th). For Schwenningen, this meant the sixth home win in the sixth home game of the season.
