Course of the game
Färjestad turned up the heat right at the start. Munich had to work hard on defense, but then adjusted better and better to the pace of the Swedes. In the middle of the third, the Red Bulls sniffed at the lead. Nikolaus Heigl (9th) and Austin Ortega (10th) had great chances, but the goal came from the other side. After a blocked shot, Lucas Forsell dusted off the shot to make it 1:0 for Karlstad (12.). Shortly before the first break, Daniel Allavena prevented Forsell's second goal (19.).
In the 22nd minute, the Munich goalkeeper had no chance for the second time. Linus Johansson increased the lead for Färjestad to 2:0 (22.). The SHL leaders continued to press the gas pedal, but Allavena kept the guests in the game with strong saves. Then, of all things, the Munich team was able to celebrate for the first time in a shorthanded period: DeSousa scored ice-coldly after strong preparation by Krämmer to make it 1:2 (37th). Only 79 seconds later, Krämmer himself made the double strike perfect with a remarkable deflection (39.). Even the lead was now possible, but another goal should not fall before the second break.
In the last third both teams with offensive field hockey, for the goalkeepers this meant permanent stress. Until the 49th minute it remained 2:2, then Färjestad struck twice. Joakim Nygård converted a solo run during a 4-on-4 situation to make it 3:2, and Magnus Nygren added the 4:2 just 23 seconds later in overtime (50th). The Red Bulls then tried everything again, but Karlstad defended the two-goal lead until the final siren.
