The two teams played a wild match in the first period. Munich had a clear advantage in chances, but Wolfsburg scored the first goal: Trevor Mingoia pushed the disc over the line from close range (18.). With this 1-0 lead for the hosts, they went into the dressing room.

Cold shower for the Red Bulls at the start of the middle period: After 68 seconds Tyler Morley deflected a shot from the blue line to 2:0 for the Grizzlys.
