Gameplay
A crazy opening phase in Ingolstadt. Maurice Edwards gave the hosts the lead after just 35 seconds, but the Red Bulls had the perfect answer ready in the first minute: Smith deflected to make it 1-1. Munich was eager to play and the game went from strength to strength. Varejcka scored the next goal to turn the game around (2nd), before Kastner added the 3:1 shortly after (3rd). It was to get even better for the Red Bulls, as Abeltshauser hammered the puck into the net for 4:1 (10.). Chris DeSousa even had the fifth goal on a penalty shot, but Jonas Stettmer, who replaced Kevin Reich, made a save in the Panther box (16).
Ingolstadt started the middle period with momentum, the Red Bulls defended uncompromisingly and played their attacks consistently to the end. Stettmer initially prevented a higher deficit. But after Ortega's finish in Munich's overtime, the keeper was beaten for the first time (29th). Ehliz increased with another power play goal to 6:1 (37.) - at the same time the score after 40 minutes.
Munich was attentive despite the high lead, Ingolstadt's offense therefore found no solutions against the Red Bulls' compact defense in the final period. In the 53rd minute, Schütz's shorthanded goal to make it 7:1 put the finishing touches on a strong team performance by the main round winners.
